Product Description
A high-profile lawyer chooses to defend an Appalachian boy accused of murdering an Archbishop. Closer examination of the facts reve al dark secrets about the Archbishop, and the boy's past.
Amazon.co.uk Review
Clever twists and a bona fide surprise ending make Primal Fear an above-average courtroom thriller. Tapping into the post-O J scrutiny of the American legal system in the case of a hotshot Chicago defence attorney (Richard Gere) whose latest client is an altar boy (Edward Norton) accused of murdering a Catholic archbishop. The film uses its own manipulation to tell a story about manipulation and when we finally discover who's been pulling the strings, the payoff is both convincing and pertinent to the ongoing debate over what constitutes truth in the American system of justice. Making an impressive screen debut that has since led to a stellar career, Norton gives a performance that rides on a razor's edge of schizophrenic pathology--his role is an actor's showcase and without crossing over the line of credibility, Norton milks it for all it's worth. Gere is equally effective in a role that capitalises on his shifty screen persona and Laura Linney and Frances McDormand give memorable performances in their intelligently written supporting roles. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 April 2008Richard Gere appears as the suave Defence Lawyer Martin Vail, looking for that one case that really is going to jettison him up to the top bracket and he seizes his chance when he defends Aaron, the choirboy accused of murdering the Archbishop in whose home he lives.Aaron, played by Edward Norton is caught after a long chase, running from near the scene covered in blood, though he has no memory of committing the crime admits to witnessing it.He has no reason he says for killing the Archbishop who he says he loved as a person.Aaron has a very bad "stammer", and when seen by a psychologist in a holding cell she sees he has another side to him?
Exceptional acting from Norton in his first role.If you like court room dramas then this will be for you.Laura Linney is the the prosecutor and Geres ex,but it's not all in the court.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2025Really good movie and I never saw it coming at the end good cast good acting good storyline if you are in to court room drama type movies then this is definitely worth a watch I’m glad I did

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 22 August 2024Arrived in mint condition, glad someone is stocking it, because it was discontinued some time ago.
The film, by the way, is top acting from messrs Gere and Norton. Bone chilling.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 17 May 2024This is a really good film with really good acting and a brilliant ending, well worth watching
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 November 2014There are few actors about whom I can honestly say that I've never seen them in a film I haven't enjoyed. Richard Gere is one of the few, and this film is no exception. Brilliant acting from Gere and Richard Norton and a William Diehl courtroom drama as good as anything from Grisham make this 2 hours of riveting viewing. I bought this new for £1.33 + £1.26 p&p. Amazing value - but checking on Amazon only 2 weeks later shows it's now £6.57!!! Why the difference I don't know, but the film itself is great. Update 7/11/14 - and 1 day later it's now £12.93!!!! Ridiculous price increase. It's good, but not worth £12.93. Update 15/11/14 - it's now £14.99!!!!! I wouldn't touch any DVD for that price unless it was a box set such as Game of Thrones!! I would downrate my stars, but as a measure of my satisfaction with the film rather than the value, it still rates 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ce DVD est super !!!
Richard Gere, avocat très réputé, va voir en un claquement de doigts comment se faire "arnaquer". Ce film est super et gagner à tout prix, voire n'importe quel prix, est l'adage de ce dvd. J'ai adoré !!!
