Product Description

With London being battered in the Second World War by the awesome Nazi V2, Squadron Leader Quint (David McCallum) is handed the task of leading the elite Mosquito Squadron on a perilous mission to destroy a secret Nazi weapon site. The Germans are rumoured to be developing a new V3 weapon, but the target site, a French chateau, also contains hundreds of RAF POWs. It is decided that the mission must go ahead, regardless of the possible casualties.

Amazon.co.uk Review

World War II aviation buffs may quibble with the details of Mosquito Squadron, but they'll love it just the same. It's an average war movie, capably directed by Boris Sagal, who thrived in television before he was tragically killed by a helicopter rotor in 1981. At the peak of his post-Man from UNCLE success, David McCallum plays a melancholy RAF ace, leading his squadron of De Havilland "Mosquito" bombers on low-altitude strikes over Nazi strongholds in Germany and France. His ground-based dilemma involves the grieving wife of his best friend, a fellow pilot presumed dead but later discovered alive with other POWs held at a French chalet where the Nazis are developing advanced V-class bombers. The RAF employs bouncing "highballs" capable of penetrating difficult targets, and the rousing climax doubles as a rescue mission and treacherous bombing run. Explosive action compensates for predictable melodrama, and Rocky Horror fans will enjoy seeing Charles ("the Criminologist") Gray as a stuffy RAF Commodore. --Jeff Shannon

Shame the sound was only mono. The sound should have been in stereo with the technology we have today. Pity really considering Battle of Britain and 633 Squadron are both in stereo.

Amazing aerial photography the days BEFORE CGI (computer-generated imagery) plus real WW2 film shot by the RAF adds to this story of how things were for aircrews.

Lots of positives but end result is let down by limited budget & over reliance on back projection. Only movie that makes use of a high ball bomb. Enjoyed it to a point but left feeling this movie could have been a much better tribute to Mosquito squadrons.

A very good film from start to finish David McCallum who even now is still going strong in acting is excellent in his part and what makes the film so much more interesting is that though there is as you would expect "poetic license" the film is quite factual--good action and entertainment.

Another film showing off the wooden wonders prowess in WWII. I'm a sucker when it comes to the Mossie. Maybe not the best film but it does showcase a very versatile aircraft doing what it did best. Pleased to say the item arrived quickly and was undamaged.

I'm not sure if I'm meant to be reviewing the purchase or the movie.
I rented the dvd. I haven't seen this flick for years. Unfortunately it was damaged in the post. So I looked up amazon and purchased a copy instead.
The purchase was very simple and it arrived reasonably fast. David McCallum looks (and is) very young indeed. This was around the time when he was playing
Illya Kuryakin in the man from U.N.C.L.E. It's a classic war (WWII air force) type movie with a bit of romance & divided loyalties thrown in.
A happy time all round and the good guy's win :)
