Product description

Product Description

Mel Brooks' historical parody is split into five sections: In 'The Stone Age', a caveman invents music after dropping a rock on his foot. However the development of the fine arts brings with it an unwelcome side-effect - the birth of the critic. 'The Roman Empire' sees Jesus and his disciples being served by a pushy waiter at the Last Supper, whilst 'The Spanish Inquisition' is turned into a big-budget musical number. Truly revolting peasants revolt in 'The French Revolution' and 'Coming Attractions' promises a sequel featuring Hitler performing an ice ballet.

Amazon.co.uk Review

Mel Brooks's 1981, three-part comedy--set in the Stone Age, the Roman Empire, and the French Revolution--is pure guilty pleasure. Narrated by Orson Welles and featuring a lot of famous faces in guest appearances (beyond the official cast), the film opens well with Sid Caesar playing a caveman, then moves along to the unlikely but somehow hilarious juxtaposition of Caesar's soldiers (the other Caesar, not Sid) with pot humour, and ends on a dumb-funny note in the French bloodbath. This is a take-it-or-leave-it movie, and it works best if you're in a take-it-or-leave-it mood. --Tom Keogh

It’s so stupid that it’s hard not to laugh 😂 They don’t make movies like that anymore.

this dvd was very funny to see , and i can not wait to see part2 of it . thank you very much.

This is not sophisticated comedy, but it takes real talent to make proper use of such terrible jokes - it's the way he tells 'em and give or take a very few gags so groanworthy that they do fall flat, it will keep you in stitches for 90 minutes, with highlights including the French Revolution and the great all-singing and dancing Spanish inquisition sequence. While many of Mel Brooks's regular collaborators are present, this film is a particular delight for British audiences due to having been filmed in the UK and featuring a wide range of British talent including Pamela Stephenson, Spike Milligan (as her father), John Hurt (as Jesus in a hilarious Last Supper gag) and many others. Definitely one of Mel Brooks's best.

As always with Mel Brooks this film is zany and laugh out loud. I hadn’t seen this before and notice that he has History Of The World 2 out. I wanted to see it so thought I would watch 1 first. Wasn’t disappointed. Brooks really tickles my funny bone…the utter madness in his sense of humour really appeals to me and always has. It’s an old film and I can’t imagine he would get away with half of what he does in this film today. Just as he wouldn’t with Blazing Saddles luckily I have the original DVD. Not the one with all the cuts. Not a bit of Woke to be found thankfully. I thoroughly enjoyed this and laughed my head off. Can’t wait to watch History Of The World 2. Think it’s showing on Hulu at the moment….Love Mel Brooks!

Have wanted to see this for a while and with part two coming out thought was the best time to get it, it's OK like having 3 or 4 short films in place of 1 long one, don't like how a bit is going skip to the next bit nothing lost. As said overall OK, worth having to complete the set.

Hilarious forgotten gem from Mel Brooks.
If you like Blazing Saddles you will like this. Both will never be on TV again.

Dejen a Mel Brooks que narre la historia a su manera y es garantizadas unas carcajadas- solo tener en cuenta el sentido del humor. Quiza si NO tienes sentido del humor, esta peli, ni las de Mel Brooks son para ti, as de simple.
