The restored, widescreen edition of Wayne's epic is at the original length and includes the theatrical trailer. Academy Award Nominations: 7, including Best Picture, Best Song (Green Leaves of Summer). Academy Awards: Best Sound. This restored version contains extra footage, previously unseen.

This is set in 1836 before Texas became a stae of the USA. General Santa Anna and the Mexican army is sweeping across Texas. To be able to stop him, General Sam Huston, played by stalwart Richard Boone needs time to get his main force into shape. Colonel William Travis (Laurence Harvey) defends a small mexican mission. Jim Bowie (Richard Widmark) and Davy Crockett (John Wayne) provide much of the action. Smitty (Frankie Avalon.) adds some cool music to the proceedings. The battle scenes are simply the best. remember, remember the Alamo.
