Summary: Ron Decker is sent to the brutal Eastern State Penitentiary. Alone, Ron is befriended by hardened long-term prisoner Earl Copen. Their friendship is tested when Ron's rejection of another con's advances has fatal consequences, leading to an audacious escape plan.

Set in San Quentin jail, ANIMAL FACTORY is a bleak prison drama where Edward Furlong plays young Ron a middle-class petty dope dealer who, in this hard violent environment, is befriended and protected by Earl Copen (Willem Dafoe in a strong chilling performance) a long term convict. Ron's comfortable upbringing proves inadequate preparation for the harsh reality of a two year sentence behind bars, but with Earl's powerful help, he plans their escape.

I really liked this film because being a big fan of the cynically wonderful Willem Dafoe and an even bigger fan of the superb Steve Buscemi , this gritty prison drama is a must see film and reminds me of the terrific series Prison Break which is viewing on the telly now. In the tough and often violent world of the U.S. penal system, Ron Decker (Edward Furlong) tentatively watches the day to day routine of the prison unfold around him. Earl Copen (Willem Dafoe)is a career criminal serving 25 years, Violent and unflinching look at the penal system.
