Beethoven's 4th

Beethoven's 4th

Universal, Suitable For All.Info Stars: Judge Reinhold, Julia Sweeney, Joe Pichler

Director: David Mickey Evans

Summary: Beethoven returns for more adventures, this time he has swapped places with the very obedient St. Bernard who lives with the Sedgwick family... Will the humans realise the mix up before things get completely out of hand?...

Judge Reinhold and Julia Sweeney return as Richard and Beth Newton, the harried owners of Beethoven, their faithful but troublesome St. Bernard. Here, Mr. and Mrs. Newton are forced to consider sending Beethoven to live on a farm because of the trouble he causes in the house. The Newton children take action when they hear the news, and begin to take Beethoven to clandestine obedience classes. However, when practicing in the park with him, the children accidentally switch Beethoven with another St. Bernard, who happens to be snooty and well behaved, just like its owners, the wealthy Sedgwicks. Soon, Beethoven is wreaking havoc on Sedgwick manor and the Newtons are puzzling over their dog's apparent personality transformation.

Editor's Review

amazon.co.uk Married couple Judge Reinhold and Julia Sweeney host the unkempt Saint Bernard in this fourth go-round of the canine comedy franchise. The pair and their two children are dog-sitting in their pleasant suburban home--made predictably less pleasant by their toilet-water-slurping, steak-stealing guest. Meanwhile, across town, a rich couple and their lonely daughter have their own problems when their identical-looking Saint Bernard, Michelangelo, is kidnapped by their double-crossing butler.

Of course, the switch is inevitable in this Prince and the Pauper with dogs, landing the meat-crazed Beethoven in the vegetarian dog's silk-sheeted bed and vice versa. Many drool jokes later, the dogs return to their rightful homes, the rich couple learns to cavort, and Reinhold and Sweeney learn to love Beethoven's uncouthness. You expected a different ending? This 90-minute sequel provides inoffensive and mildly amusing entertainment for ages 4 to about 12. --Kimberly Heinrichs
