Summary: A double helping of sporting Adam Sandler comedies. In the raucous comedy THE BENCHWARMERS, two nerdy adults challenge a bullying baseball squad of children to a game, leading to a state-wide tournament being created to offer the chance to youth baseball teams to play the nerdy adults. In THE LONGEST YARD, an ex-American football star ends up in prison and finds himself in the middle of a grudge match of football between the guards and the inmates.
A double helping of sporting Adam Sandler comedies. Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions--in cahoots with director Dennis Dugan (HAPPY GILMORE), stars Rob Schneider (DEUCE BIGELOW: MALE GIGOLO), Jon Heder (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE), and David Spade (TOMMY BOY)--seeks to level the eternal struggle between jocks and nerds in the raucous comedy THE BENCHWARMERS. Landscaper Gus and newspaper deliveryman Clarke come upon a hapless group of kids being picked on by a bully baseball squad on the sandlot. Gus challenges the tough Little Leaguers to a scrimmage and Clarke and his other nerdy friend Richie are recruited--and the eponymous Benchwarmers are formed. Soon a state-wide tournament is created allowing any youth baseball team the chance to knock off the Benchwarmers. In THE LONGEST YARD, Adam Sandler plays an ex-football star whose career ended amidst allegations of point shaving. Fed up, he drunkenly steals his unfriendly wife's (an uncredited Courtney Cox) luxury car and drives it into a multi-car pileup. This lands Crewe in a cruel Texas state penitentiary. His only respite comes from Warden Hazen (James Cromwell) who wants Crewe to help lead his well-equipped prison-guard football team to the league championship. Crewe timorously agrees, suggesting the creation of an opposing team of convicts to give the guards an easy tune-up before the season. To the ragtag inmates, this is the chance they've been waiting for, and they hustle to get their team together so they can exact some revenge on the harassing guards.
