Set in Northumbria in 1880, Bridget Mordaunt inherits her father's blacking factory as a young woman and soon wins the respect of the workforce as she turns it into a solid business. However, her comfortable life soon falls apart when her works manager Joe is accused of his brother's murder and her feckless cousin Victoria marries Lionel Filmore, the evil son of an impoverished aristocrat. Sterling cast includes Samantha Bond, Tara Fitzgerald, James Gaddas and Nathaniel Parker.
