This is the first screen adaption of the classic Ernest
Hemingway novel . Screen legends Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes portray Lt. Henry , the officer , and Catherine , the nurse , who find true love amidst the horror of World War 1 . Trying to stop our young lovers is Adolph Menjou as Major Rinaldi , the man jealous of the love between the young Lieutenant and the English Red Cross nurse . This touching tale demonstrates that in spite of the miles between them and the obstacles in their way , love does find a way of uniting people . Get the hankies out !
