In BORN ON THE FOURTH OF JULY, Ron Kovic volunteers eagerly to serve in Vietnam. After being disillusioned by the duplicity of military bureaucracy, he's paralyzed from the chest down by a bullet in the spine. He returns home, bitterly alienated from an uncomprehending family, facing a long and painful rehabilitation. But slowly, with the help of friends like Donna (Kyra Sedgewick), he begins to think differently about the war--and about himself.
BLACK HAWK DOWN is an account of an American UN Peacekeeping Force which landed in Mogadishu, Somalia in October 1993. Their mission was to abduct the two top lieutenants of a local warlord but the team are quickly surrounded by enemy forces and a fifteen hour fierce ground battle ensues.
CASUALTIES OF WAR is a drama based on a true incident which took place during the Vietnam War. A squad of U.S. soldiers kidnap, rape and murder a young and innocent Vietnamese farm girl. Two soldiers become locked in a bitter battle of conscience over the fate of the girl.
In JARHEAD, A young American Army recruit is sent to Saudi Arabia to fight in the first Gulf War. But once they arrive in the punishing heat of the desert, the long wait for battle sends many of the Marines dangerously close to the brink of insanity.
In THREE KINGS, four Gulf War soldiers discover a map that potentially leads to an enormous stash of gold bullion. Director David O.Russell gives his actors a chance to shine with roles that step outside of the usual cinematic cliches and enable them to create humanistic, believable characters, resulting in one of 1999's most exciting, original and underrated motion pictures.
