Summary: A murder writer gains a valuable insight into his craft by practising for real beforehand.
The people of London fear for their lives after reading about the many peculiar murders happening in the city using curious tools such as binoculars with needles in the eyepieces. Crime journalist Edmund Bancroft, is the man responsible for writing these stories on the crime. Everyone in London, including Scotland Yard, is baffled by the seemingly unsolvable murders; but not Edmund Bancroft. This is because, he seized the opportunity to come up with an attention-grabbing article by making up these horrible acts of murder himself. He collaborates with his assistant, Rick and together the two men manage a "black museum" from where all the "tools" are derived.
