In an attempt at rebuilding his life, Gary moves to California where he is reunited with ex-wife Valene (Joan Van Ark) and their daughter Lucy. The scenic but insular cul-de-sac where they reside is a hotbed of neighbourhood politics, exposing all manner of scandal--from alcoholism to infidelity and rape.
