This huge twelve film collection celebrates Norman Wisdom, one of British comedy's most enduring slapstick stars. He plays the fumbling cloth-capped anti-hero, a favourite throughout the world (and particularly Albania) for his portrayal of the little man against big bad British Institutions.
THE BULLDOG BREED (1960): Norman plays a grocer who's suffering from unrequited love. Disheartened he runs away to the navy and then becomes the candidate for a space flight to the moon!
ONE GOOD TURN (1954): Norman has promised to buy a toy car for one of the children at the orphanage where he's the odd-job-man. Short of cash he has to devise ways of finding the money to keep his promise.
THE EARLY BIRD (1965): In this caper, Norman is a milkman for good old Grimsdale Dairy. When the dairy is threatened with takeover by a big, modern dairy pint-sized Norman puts up one hell of a fight.
PRESS FOR TIME (1966): A triple dose of Norman this time. He plays a newspaper seller, the newspaper seller's mother and also the newspaper seller's grandfather the prime minister!
ON THE BEAT (1962): When Norman is too short to join the police force like his father did before him, he resorts to washing the panda cars at Scotland Yard instead.
MAN OF THE MOMENT (1955): Norman is the great pretender once more. This time he leaps from lowly Whitehall clerk to cigar-smoking international diplomat at the United Nations.
A STITCH IN TIME (1963): Norman plays Mr Grimsdale's assistant in a family butcher shop which gets held up by gunmen. He ends up in hospital and falls for a nurse.
In JUST MY LUCK (1957) Norman is working in a jeweller's shop and has taken a fancy to a local window dresser. Short of cash he takes up gambling in order to win some money to spend on lavish gifts for her. Look out for cameos from Leslie Phillips and Joan Sims.
THE SQUARE PEG (1958) sees our man in the double-edged position of being--not Monty's double--but that of a German General!
In FOLLOW A STAR (1959) Norman plays a shy but talented singer who provides the voice for a fading star. Hattie Jacques and Richard Wattis are stars of the supporting cast.
TROUBLE IN STORE (1953): This is the first film in Norman Wisdom's incredibly successful slapstick series. He works in the stock room of a department store but has an ambitious dream to dress the windows but there are endless obstacles in his way. His performance won him the Best Newcomer prize at the BAFTA Awards!
UP IN THE WORLD (1956): Norman gets a window cleaning job for Lady Banderville but her son Sir Reggie keeps causing chaos for Norman.
