In 2001 he conducted the Berlin Philharmonic's annual summer concert, which yearly devotes itself to a particular country's theme. In this case the country of Spain was selected and among the works performed that night were Vives' 'Fandango', Strauss' 'Spanischer Marsch', Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Capriccio Espagnol', Massenet's 'Meditation' and others.
