Summary: Having discovered that he's adopted, successful psychologist Richard Clayton finds his biological parents and arranges for them to visit him one weekend. Richard is taken aback when he finds his parents are trailer trash carnival workers.
A psychologist is told one day that he is adopted, leading him to seek out his biological parents. Richard Clayton (Ron Livingstone, OFFICE SPACE) has a successful career and his self-help book on anger management is a best-seller. He has a fantastic fiance (Neve Campbell) and supportive, rich parents. News that he has been adopted comes as a bolt from the blue. Richard employs a private detective and arranges for his biological parents to visit him one weekend. Upon their arrival, he is shocked to learn that his real parents Frank (Danny DeVito) and Agnes Menure (Kathy Bates) are crude, trailer-trash carnival workers. Richard's life is turned upside down when they move into his house, bringing with them a ragtag group of friends and family. Now Richard finds himself caught between his new, obnoxious parents and the upper class family who raised him - it's enough to give anyone an identity crisis! RELATIVE STRANGERS is a heart-warming black comedy written and directed by Greg Glienna, whose previous writing credits include the thematically similar MEET THE PARENTS.
