In MEAN STREETS, Charlie, aged 27 and still supported by his Catholic mother, spends his days wandering the streets of New York City and his nights hanging out drinking with his good friend Johnny Boy, a loose cannon who can't seem to crawl out of debt. Charlie's extreme affability makes him the middle man between Johnny Boy and Michael, a bookie who has become fed up with Johnny Boy's constant dodging. As the city's San Gennaro Festival takes over the streets of Little Italy, Michael seeks revenge on Johnny Boy once and for all.
In TAXI DRIVER, New York City taxi driver Travis Bickle goes on a murderous rampage against the pitiable denizens inhabiting the city's underbelly. For the psychotic, pistol-packing Vietnam vet, New York City seems like a circle of hell. Driving his cab each night through the bleak Manhattan streets, Bickle observes with fanatical loathing, the sleazy lowlifes who comprise most of his fares. CAPE FEAR is Martin Scorsese's remake of J. Lee Thompson's 1962 film and sees public defender Sam Bowden serving as the attorney for brutal rapist Max Cady at his arraignment. Shocked by the violence of Cady's crime, Sam duplicitously withheld information regarding the sexually promiscuous activities of Cady's rape victim - information that might have won Max's acquittal. After serving a hellish 14-year sentence in a barbaric state penitentiary, the once-illiterate Cady, who has taught himself to read and studied up on the law during his incarceration, seeks vengeance against the prosperous small-town lawyer. In SLEEPERS, Tommy, John, Michael, and Shakes are four young teenage punks, who after a failed prank find themselves serving time at the Wilkinson School for Boys. During their time there, four guards repeatedly and sadistically torture them - the most menacing being Noles. Fifteen years later, the foursome is still dealing with the emotional repercussions of their abuse. Tommy and John have become common criminals and when they spot Noles in a local watering hole, they can't pass up the chance for revenge. It's up to Shakes, a low-profile newspaper employee, and Michael, a lawyer with the district attorney's office, to save their friends while keeping the details of their tortured childhood secret.
